English Language Requirements

For many degree programs at the University of Regensburg, proof of English language proficiency is required. This page provides an overview of the different ways you can meet this requirement. However, we strongly recommend that you check with your examination office or degree program in advance to find out which type of language certificate is accepted.

Please note that this information does not apply to language certificates required for study abroad programs. Detailed information on the language requirements for study abroad can be found here.


Language Certificates

At the University of Regensburg, the following English language certificates are generally accepted as proof of B2 or C1 level proficiency. The table shows the minimum overall score required for each level.

Certificates not listed here may be submitted to the ZSK (by email to info.englisch@ur.de) for evaluation of equivalency.

Abitur (German High School Diploma)

A German high school diploma (Abitur) showing a result of “B2,” “B2/C1,” or “B2+/C1” in English is generally accepted as proof of B2-level proficiency. Please note that the results “B2/C1” and “B2+/C1” do not count as proof of C1-level proficiency.
