Program profile & structure

Profile of the degree programme
In the M.Sc. degree program in Human-Centred AI, you will learn to develop innovative, user-centred AI solutions and work in interdisciplinary environments. Over the course of your studies, you will have the opportunity to deepen your expertise in advanced topics of machine learning, human-computer interaction, and AI ethics, while specializing in specific application areas.
As a graduate of our Master's program, you have received an excellent academic education that is individually tailored to your interests and career goals.
You will receive a solid grounding in AI methods, human-centred design principles, and the responsible use of AI. You will carry out your own research projects on current challenges in the field of human-centred AI. All this prepares you to help shape the future of AI and embark on a career as a sought-after specialist in industry, politics, and academia.
Structure of the degree program

Not to Be Missed: The Core Modules
In addition to an introductory module that gives you an overview of the entire field of human-centred AI, you will complete four further core modules during the course of your studies.
- In the AI Ethics module, for example, you will discuss ethical challenges in AI systems.
- In Technologies for Human-Centred AI 1 and 2, you will develop solutions for (AI) systems by applying principles of human-centred design, e.g., in the areas of natural language processing, recommender systems and information retrieval.
- In the Free Elective module, you can deepen your knowledge in specific subject areas or gain insights into new topics and trends - including in the field of computer science and data science.
Time to Choose: The Advanced Modules
We give you a thematic framework and you decide which topics interest you the most. This is the basic idea behind our Advanced Modules. You take seven modules and can choose between different courses and projects within these modules, including courses from the fields of information science, computer science, data science, and psychology. The seven modules include: Explainable AI, Generative AI, Information Behaviour, Deep Reinforcement Learning, Current Topics in Human-Centred AI, Empirical Human-Centred AI and Computational Human-Centred AI.
Get Practical: The Research Modules
Towards the end of your degree program, you will apply your knowledge and skills in project seminars. You will plan and realize projects in the field of human-centred AI independently and as part of a team. If you wish, one of these projects can lead to your Master's thesis.
