Information on the Bachelor's degree programme in Management Information Systems
On the Bachelor's degree programme in Management Information Systems, students have the opportunity to individually and freely choose a specialisation in one of the subject areas of Digital Business, IT Security or Data Science & AI Applications after the first phase of their studies. They can then deepen this specialisation in the seminar and bachelor's thesis. Compared to other Bachelor's degree programmes, this is a great advantage, as students can take their interests into account very individually.

- Focus on analysing, evaluating and developing innovative solutions for complex requirements of the modern business world
Methodological competences:
- Teach theoretical knowledge and practice-orientated skills
Key competences:
- Prepare students to tackle complex challenges using computer scientists' methods and concepts
The Bachelor of Arts degree programme in Management Information Systems (2nd HF) is made up of the specialisation module groups "Information Systems and Computer Science", "General Information Systems", "Digital Business, IT Security and Data Science & AI Applications".
Management information systems and computer scientists: Here it is possible to put together individual modules in order to specialise either in the development and application of information and communication systems in companies or in the systematic representation, storage, processing and transmission of information. The focus is on teaching basic knowledge of computer science concepts and systematics.
General management information systems: Students gain insights into information management, internet technologies, data analysis, programming and business modelling.
Digital Business, IT Security and Data Science & AI Applications: This offers students a comprehensive introduction to the topics of the digital business environment. In the area of IT security, students are familiarised with the protection goals of confidentiality, integrity, accountability and availability. They learn various protection mechanisms to ensure the security of information systems, including measures against targeted attacks and the use of cryptography. After completing the module, students will be able to analyse current developments in IT security and actively participate in the design and management of secure information systems. In the Digital Business area, students receive a basic introduction to electronics and digital markets and the development of new, technology-based business models. They are familiarised with the central concepts and challenges of digital business and learn how to model and simulate value creation networks and processes. In addition, students will gain an overview of digital social networks in companies and their role in the digital business environment.
Project seminar:
After completing this module, students should be able to analyse a challenging topic in management information systems and also to fix it in writing in a convincing and understandable way for third parties. The described independent and methodical processing of a topic in management information systems builds on the learning outcomes of the Bachelor's programme.
Description of the learning objectives for the module "Fundamentals of management information systems for students of other Bachelor's degree programmes" (30 ECTS) (minor subject mathematics):
After completing the module group "Fundamentals of Management Information Systems for Students of Other Bachelor's Degree Programmes", students will be able to recognise the functionalities and forms of use of operational and inter-company information systems and classify the different information systems. Students will also be able to apply various techniques for analysing and designing process flows in companies. Furthermore, students acquire basic knowledge in the conception and implementation of databases and software applications. Overall, students acquire a broad theoretical foundation, which is deepened by means of practice-orientated applications and the use of software tools. Students taking management information systems as a minor subject (not as a 2nd major subject) only need to take this module group. Management information systems as a 2nd major - courses from the minor in management information systems (30 ECTS) + 6 ECTS from each of the following 4 courses + project seminar with 8 ECTS Information management The aim of the lecture is therefore to first give students an overview of information management and to deepen their knowledge of relevant areas. After completing the module, students will be familiar with terms and concepts in information management. They will also be familiar with the further development of the approach in connection with the tasks of IT management and IT governance. Students will also be able to delineate the tasks of information management within information management and will be familiar with important techniques. They will also be able to describe the characteristics of data quality and know strategies for improving it. Students are also familiar with the task area of information system management, as well as important techniques in the context of strategic IT management (including situation analysis, IT architecture, IT portfolio), which they can also apply to case studies. In addition, they have gained an insight into the tasks of IT management. They are familiar with the processes of the IT department and can use techniques to answer important structural and procedural organisational questions. They are also familiar with ITIL as a reference model in IT service management. Furthermore, they have an overview of the tasks in IT governance and are familiar with COBIT as a reference model. The exercise deepens the content of the lecture using examples and enables students to apply selected techniques.
