News: Seasons Greetings

We hope you've been staying warm and enjoying the magic of the German Holiday season! In this article, we would like to provide you with some useful information about the winter break at the UR and in the city.
In addition, we also attached some recipes and tipps to help you get into the holiday spirit!

The University winter break takes place from December 24 till January 6. Welcome Center winter break is from December 22 till January 6.

Holiday Store Closure

Please remember that for several days shops will be entirely closed.

The following days are holidays so even supermarkets and drugstores are closed: Dec. 25, Dec. 26, Jan. 1, Jan. 6

The Edeka supermarket in the train station will remain open, though, every day from 6 am - midnight

Cooking/Craft Ideas

As you might have more time than usual, we have attached a few typical German recipes for you to try out:

Vanillekipferl: small, crescent-shaped biscuits

Home-made mulled wine: "Gl¨¹hwein" and "Kinderpunsch"

Here are some more recipes: traditional German Christmas Cookies (Pl?tzchen) (external link, opens in a new window)

And here's an idea for a crafty project: A paper tree (external link, opens in a new window)

For those who would like to get a first impression of German Christmas classics, we found this:

Ice skating at the Donau Arena

Our another recommendation for an active holiday is public ice skating at the Donau Arena! You can find the schedule and prices here. The regular public skating ("?ffentlicher Eislauf") costs 5,50 € per adult (4,50 € per child) and is open almost every day during the holidays. They are also organizing a "Discolauf" ice skating with music and party lights some evenings.

We're thinking of you all and we look forward to all that's to come in 2026. We are wishing you a Merry Christmas, a happy holiday season and a guten Rutsch ("good slide") into the new year!
