Registration FAQ
Who can register to participate?
All interested students at the University of Regensburg can register to participate in experiments. To participate in laboratory experiments, you should be able to visit our experimental laboratory at Bajuwarenstra?e 4.
How do I register?
Please click on Register (external link, opens in a new window) and enter your details to log in to the RUBY participant database.
Do I have to fill in all the registration fields?
To register in the RUBY participant database, you must complete all mandatory fields. This is the only way we can invite you to the relevant experiments.
What happens if informations are incorrect or missing?
Please avoid providing incorrect information when register in the participant database.
This can lead to problems when inviting for experiments. In some cases, this may even result in you not being able to take part in the experiment. If information changes (e.g. degree programme or address), you can update these fields in the participant database yourself.
How does the general experimental registration process at RUBY LAB work?
After registering in the RUBY participant database, you will receive confirmation of your registration by email.
If experiments are taking place, participants will be invited by email and informed of the date, time and duration of the experiments. Only participants who have been invited can take part in the respective experiment. To participate, a binding confirmation via the registration system is required. To do so, please use the link sent to you in the invitation.
My degree programme is not included, what should I do?
Please select a comparable degree programme.
Why didn't I receive a confirmation email after my registration?
The confirmation emails are sent automatically. If you do not receive an email, please check whether a typing error has crept into the email address you entered.
If this does not help, please log in again after about 30 minutes. If you are still unsuccessful, please send us an email at ruby(at)uni-regensburg.de. (opens your email program)
How can I delete my RUBY LAB account?
To delete your RUBY LAB account, please send an email at ruby(at)uni-regensburg.de (opens your email program).
Experiment FAQ
What are the experiments actually about?
In principle, it is not possible to provide a general description of the experiments, as they are very diverse and can have different scientific backgrounds. However, all experiments are carried out according to standards of experimental economics. In particular, participants are never deceived or lied to in the experiments. The experiments usually take place on a PC.
Is participation remunerated and in what amount?
As a participant, you will receive at least an appearance fee of 5 euros if you turn up on time for a registered experiment.
Your remaining earnings depend on the decisions you and all other participants make in the experiment. As experiments often vary greatly, it is not possible to give a general rule for earnings in an experiment.
In principle, however, it can be said that on average you will receive an income that corresponds to a good student salary.
How can I cancel my registration for an experiment?
You can deregister from an experiment yourself in the RUBY participant database within the specified deregistration period (usually 48 hours before the experiment date). After that, it is no longer possible to deregister yourself.
If you are ill or unable to attend the experiment due to exceptional circumstances, please notify us AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE by email at ruby(at)uni-regensburg.de (opens your email program) and, if necessary, to the email address given in the invitation email.
Do I have to show up if I am invited?
If we invite you to an experiment, you can only take part in the experiment if you expressly accept.
You confirm your participation by clicking on the link in the invitation email and selecting one of the various available dates. Once you have accepted, you will receive another confirmation email with the dates of the appointment.
Once you have made a binding registration for an appointment, you should definitely show up for this appointment. Please read the corresponding FAQ on the subject of "Cancellation".
How do the experiments work?
For laboratory experiments, all registered participants will arrive punctually at the RUBY experimental laboratory (Bajuwarenstra?e 4, V27). You will be welcomed there by the experiment supervisor and accompanied to your workstation.
As soon as all participants have arrived, the experiment will start and you will be faced with various decision-making situations on the PC. You will receive precise instructions on which decisions you have to make and which questions you should answer. If you have any questions, you can ask the supervisor.
At the end of the experiment, the supervisor will let you know when you can leave the lab. Of course, you will then also receive your payment for participating in the experiment.
How often do experiments take place and how long do they last?
The experiments take place irregularly and the duration varies from experiment to experiment. Participants who are invited to an experiment are always informed in advance by email when an experiment will take place and approximately how long it will last. Participants can then register for a specific date that suits them best. Based on our experience, most lab experiments last around 60 minutes.
Can I register for several experiment dates?
Almost all experiments are carried out on different dates. You can only register for one date per experiment. The other dates then disappear from the list.
You will receive a separate email for each experiment for which you can register. So normally, one registration is possible per invitation email.
