Application

The online application in the campus portal is open

  • from 1 May to 15 June (= deadline) for the winter semester starting in October of each year
  • from 1 November to 15 December (= application deadline) for the summer semester starting in April of each year

After the application deadlines, the examination boards will review the application documents. The letter of admission, invitation or rejection is sent via the campus portal by the end of January (application for the summer semester) or the end of July (application for the winter semester).

Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Regensburg (incl. BSc Biochemistry, teaching degree in Biology) or another German-speaking university.

Applications must be submitted online via the campus portal within the above-mentioned deadlines.

Required documents that must be uploaded:

  • Abitur certificate with proof of English language proficiency (at least level B2); as a scan (certification not necessary)
  • Proof of English language proficiency (level B2), if this cannot be proven with the Abitur certificate
  • Bachelor's certificate (with final grade) or, if the Bachelor's certificate cannot be submitted at the time of application, a transcript of records with a minimum of 150 credit points and a provisional overall grade. You can generate the transcript of records in Flexnow; link: Online performance overview for students. The provisional overall grade will be calculated by the Biology Examination Office on request.

Missing certificates

If the Bachelor's certificate and/or proof of English language proficiency cannot be presented at the time of transfer to the Master's degree programme, enrolment is provisional under the resolutory condition that these are presented by the end of the first semester at the latest. In this case, module examinations can only be taken after final enrolment. The Bachelor's certificate must be submitted to the Registrar's Office and the Faculty (Elisabeth Brunner) before the end of the first semester, the proof of English only to Elisabeth Brunner. If the certificates are not submitted, the student will be de-registered. If necessary, a new application for admission must be made and the proof submitted at the time of application.

Applicants with a degree in a related subject (not biology), obtained at a German-speaking university.

The following subjects are not related and therefore do not qualify:

  • Applied Biology
  • Bioanalytics
  • Biotechnology
  • Molecular biology
  • Molecular medicine
  • Microbiology
  • Pharmacy
  • Medicine

After a preliminary check, you will be asked to apply.

Required documents that must be uploaded:

  • Copy (scan) of the Abitur certificate (certification not necessary)
  • Proof of English language proficiency (level B2) if this cannot be proven with the Abitur certificate
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Bachelor's degree certificate (with final grade)
  • if the Bachelor's certificate cannot be submitted at the time of application, a transcript of records with a minimum of 150 LP must be submitted.
  • Transcript of Records with a list of the courses completed (incl. semester hours per week and credit points)
  • Module catalogue with a description of the content of the courses

After that you may be invited to apply via the onlie application platform.

For the application you need following documents:

  • List of courses (pdf) Fill in the pdf-document and upload with the other documents
    1. Fill in this form online (electronically); do not download it before filling it in
    2. After filling it in, download the form and save it as pdf-file
    3. Upload the pdf-file at the online application platform.

NOTE! This form has to be filled in completely and carefully!

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Bachelor Certificate of Biology or related subject showing the final grade (the original document and a certified copy translated in English or German); If the bachelor certificate cannot be presented by the application deadline, a transcript of records with a minimum of 150 credit points, showing the preliminary overall grade, has to be presented (certified copy translated in English or German).
  • Grading system; official explanation of the grading system, showing the maximum points and required minimum points for passing.
  • Transcript of Records showing the credit points of each course of the study programme (original document and certified copy translated in English or German)
  • thesis or scientific project; Bachelor thesis and/or master thesis and/or research project; Please send the abstract or, if possible the whole thesis as pdf-file.
  • module catalogue; document showing the contents (!) of the courses (original document and certified copy translated in English or German). The module catalogue (e.g. syllabus) has to be an official document in English. If the module catalogue is in another language, please send the original document and a certified translation in English, which should be available from your university. Please contact elisabeth.brunner@ur.de if your university does not provide a module catalogue in English.
    • Please note! Applications without a module catalogue showing the contents of the courses can not be processed.
    • A list of courses with only the title of the courses and without the contents of the courses is not sufficient for reviewing the application!
    • practical courses in the transcript of records or the module catalogue practical courses should be clearly visible.
  • English language skills B2; for example:
    • IELTS (min. 6.5)
    • TOEFL (min. 79 points)
    • language of instruction of the Bachelor programme was English
  • Basic German language skills; German language course (minimum of 120 hours) or proof of German language level A1 (CEFR, common European frame of reference). If the proof of basic German language skills cannot be presented by the registration deadline, a preliminary registration (matriculation) is possible. The proof can be provided after registration by the end of the second semester. Please note, module examinations can only be successfully completed when the matriculation is definitive. If the documents cannot be presented by the end of the second semester, an automated exmatriculation is initiated. For continuation of the study, a new application is necessary with the required documents presented by the application deadline.
  • APS certificate; Students from India, China and Vietnam have to present the APS certificate. The APS certificate does not have to be attached to the application documents. However, when acceptet to the programme, it has to be uploaded during the enrolment procedure. It is also needed to proceed with their German Student VISA application. Please Note!

  • Only applications with the complete documents will be processed!
  • All documents have to be translated in English or German by a sworn translator (certified translation). Documents in another language will not be accepted!
  • For the application a simple copy of your documents (in its original language) and a simple copy of its translation in English or German are sufficient.
  • Only when enrolling at University later, the original documents have to be presented. Without the original documents, enrolment is not possible!
  • If the bachelor certificate and/or the proof of English language cannot be presented by the registration deadline, a preliminary registration (matriculation) is possible. Please note, module examinations can only be successfully completed when the matriculation is definitive. If the documents cannot be presented by the end of the first semester, an automated exmatriculation is initiated. For continuation of the study, a new application is necessary with the required documents presented by the application deadline.
