Digitalisation has permanently changed numerous areas of the economy and society. Digital solutions in companies make it possible to carry out parts of value creation, such as product development, sales or service, together with market participants regardless of location and time, digitised and mobile. The methods and techniques of business engineering support companies in the implementation of change processes and enable them to proactively adapt to the challenges of digitalisation. The core is the analysis and design of efficient information and communication systems. Business engineering supports this process through the structured analysis, modelling and implementation of different perspectives on the company. These include analysing business models and processes, the static description of information structures (in the form of data or object models), the representation of relevant aspects of the corporate strategy or the description of the architecture of information systems. At the same time, they integrate the different perspectives so that inconsistencies are avoided in the event of changes.

Contents of the Module:

- Design of the strategy level

- Design of the process level

- Basics of the system level

- Method engineering and meta-modelling

Another element of the course is a group project. Students are divided into teams for this purpose. Each group is given a case study in the field of business engineering, which they work on independently. The aim is to conduct their own research on the topic and prepare an analysis with options for action.

Qualification Goals of the Module:

On degree of this module, students will have gained an overview of methods and techniques that can be used for business design. They will know in which way concepts and techniques can be usefully applied. Furthermore, they will be able to consistently ensure the integration of the techniques. To this end, they have also become familiar with various approaches from method engineering, in particular meta-modelling. The module deepens the knowledge of the "Enterprise Modelling" module from the Business Informatics Bachelor's degree studies. While the focus of the Bachelor's module was on the application of individual techniques, students will be able to apply selected techniques (e.g. business model and BSC) in combination or select methods (BPR and process mining) on a case-specific basis after completing this module. In the exercise, the content of the lecture is deepened using examples so that students are able to apply the theoretical concepts in practice with the help of tools.
