Barbara Wimmer-Bulin started working as a research assistant at DIMAS under Prof Steigemann on 1 April 2024.

She studied Ethnology under Prof Hauschild and Sociology under Prof Gildemeister at the University of Tübingen. Since then, she has combined social and cultural anthropological perspectives and methods with artistic research and works as an independent artistic researcher. In this context, she has dedicated herself to working on various projects that deal with socially relevant and ecological issues. Her works have been exhibited internationally and shortlisted in various open calls. She is particularly interested in making knowledge accessible in creative formats. To this end, she uses various outreach formats.

Her project on the implementation of intensive agriculture in a nature reserve in Portugal is of particular importance and she has been pursuing it since the end of her studies. To date, Barbara Wimmer-Bulin has worked on the topic both photographically and in essay form. With her appointment at DIMAS, she is now researching it as part of her dissertation with the working title "Competing approaches to landscape. From Arcadia to Agricultural Landscape? Conflicts over resources in the natural apron area in Portugal. An ethnographic case study".

Her research focuses on political ecology, resource conflicts and landscape. In addition, she is dedicated to questions of homeland, gender, coexistence, dwelling and qualitative research methods.
In her university teaching, she combines alternative teaching formats in the form of artistic research and project seminars with classical knowledge transfer.

Since 2024, in addition to her research activities, she has also been employed part-time as a curator for special exhibitions at the Kelheim Archaeological Museum and works in museum education.
